Live Music - Los PerdidosShow details
Los Perdidos’ surf-rock hews closer to early rock instrumentalists like Link Wray, Duane Eddy and The Shadows, leaning more on Morricone widescreen than rapid-fire Dick Dale tremolo picking, brief vignettes unfolding in cascading melodies predicated on casual insouciance rather than amphetamine-rush energy.
There’s plenty of reverb coming from Andy Collins’ Fender amp, sure, but his hollowbody Gretsch — a favorite instrument of Eddy’s — lends his tone a hefty, spaghetti-western twang, balancing Byron Chitty’s active basslines and Adam Cox’s busy, fluid drumming.
Like The Shadows — or Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet — Los Perdidos’ momentum is subtle but strong, and totally enveloping. It still evokes a ride on the Pacific Coast Highway, but it trades top-down summer fun for the ghostly chill of moonlight reflecting off the ocean. - Patrick Wall
