Shrine Underground rises up once a month as a creative sacred space for dancers. This gathering serves the dance community with an opportunity to perform for one another in an open dance forum. Solo and group work is welcome. All dance genres are encouraged as well as other fringe performers. We hope to have an electic mix of talent which rotates monthly. From 7-8 PM, open dance will commence with an hour long dance party following, with Deft Key, who will be spinning a fusion of genres, all dance friendly. Dr. Roundhouse started as an acoustic duo, DNR, that rocked the Columbia music scene. They rocked it hard. Frontmen, Jon and Russell, perfected their original compositions in this early carnation of the band. The duo added Nate Poston to the mix, bringing what is sometimes referred to as the heat. The bass guitar addition led the group to Nick McGill. Despite lacking in the height department, the band felt that he may be the drummer for them. While barely visible to the eye, his presence is more than audible. The group now cobbles shoes and makes custard pies. Also they rock. They rock hard. View facebook page

Love is in the air at the NUTS Video Game Show!
This month we are hosting our yearly NUT Cracker Tag Team Tournament. The winner of this single elimination, TS rules, tag team tournament will win the coveted NUT Cracker, which gives the owner the right to challenge for the NUTS Championship anytime! Find a partner and get NUTS!

Along with the tag tournament we will have our regular rounds so you can additional earn points toward the titles and prizes. Also in our championship round Marques will defend his Art Bar Title in an extreme match, Wilbur the Art Barbarian will defend his TS Title against one of the top 10 overall point earners, and Kung Fu Treachery will defend his NUTS Championship against Wilbur the Art Bar Barbarian!

View facebook event - A magical first date, indeed. Turbo Gatto discovered a mysterious tome while exploring the hidden attic of a nearby abandoned asylum. We opened the strange text full of ornate symbols, diagrams, and incantations. One page caught our eye—a sketch of an unusual looking creature. We spoke the words, instantly and unwittingly calling forth an enormous black cat, which seemed to fill the entire room—an enchanting beast with shimmering jet-black fur and luminous green eyes. She didn’t speak, but somehow her voice echoed in our minds. Her name was Lucipurr, she was from a distant planet, with the power to possess those who summon her with music. She called upon Kevin, now Turbo, to pick up the guitar, and Gina, now Gatto, for artillery rhythms on the drums. The music: gritty garage rock and roll about cats. Cat Rock.

This month we are having our yearly Royal Screw. This 32 player ladder-style, single elimination, TS Rules only tournament will earn one lucky person a whopping 32 points! The way this works is every player is put into a queue that is shuffled. Players continue to take on competitors one after the next until they lose or they win the entire event. Karen Meat is a pop rock project of Arin Eaton based between Des Moines and Iowa City. The band itself is a moody character, a sequined oversized sweater, crooning melodies and lyrics of a bored generation. She's Drunk Like The Rest Of Us, Karen Meat’s recent November 2016 tape release, steers away from her DSM band (Brad Turk, John Huffman) as Eaton collaborates with her business partner Dana Telsrow. Karen Meat glitters with memorable beats, 60s-girl-pop inspired vocals, guitar solos by Dana, and coordinated outfits. Full band Karen Meat includes releases such as On The Couch (2016), and self-titled Karen Meat & The Computer (2015) - grumpy rock n’ roll songs with a tinge of partying and omnicord, with titles like “Who Cares?” and “Pizza and Beer”. Realistically, pop songs should be fun AND sad. Karen Meat embraces the power of rejection and depression as themes for her music, and her upbeat tunes are gems of sarcasm and truth.

Columbia's Craziest Operatic Ensemble returns to Art Bar with their off-beat combination of opera and comedy.

What do you get when you mix music from operas and operettas by Mozart, Verdi, Gilbert and Sullivan, four singers on the prowl for their next romantic leads, and lots of alcohol? You get the original comic work Four Singers Walk Into a Bar. Soprano and librettist Maria Beery, tenor Michael Brown, mezzo Evelyn Clary, bass-baritone Abe Hardy and live accompanist Claudio Olivera (they no longer hire zombies to play keyboard) weave a tale of love lost and won. While the music is in Italian, French and Victorian English, be not dismayed - comic genius Andrew Skaggs will translate their songs into colloquial English for you.

Come out to Art Bar on Thursday, December 13th. The show starts at 6:30. If you stay for trivia, which follows at 8:00, you can catch teasers for upcoming shows.

This program is presented free of charge, but, donations are gratefully accepted. All performers are trained professionals with the student loans to prove it.
